Open-Ended Questions

Our goal:
To incorporate more opportunities in all content areas for students to practice, revise, and master answering an open-ended question in written form.

The process:
Once per marking period we will post to this discussion page a reflection on an example of an open-ended question we used in class. The expectation is that we are using open-ended questions bi-weekly, but we only need to post one per marking period.

Use the following questions to guide your post:
1. What open-ended question did you use and how did it tie into your lesson?
2. What percentage of students scored proficient and advanced on the question?
3. Looking at those students, what did they do that made them successful in answering the question?
4. What percentage of students scored basic or below basic?
5. Looking at those students, what seemed to be their struggle?
6. What skill could you explicitly teach that would help your struggling students write better answers?
